A Certification Program for Healthcare Facility Contractors.

The Kentucky Society of Healthcare Engineers is pleased to announce the 2020 Certified Healthcare Contractor Program. The purpose of this landmark program is to educate contractors (owners, operations managers, project managers, etc.) in the many critical aspects that are unique to working in healthcare facilities.

Hospitals created the concept of 24/7; therefore, whenever a contractor performs services in a healthcare facility, the team of employees must be familiar with the Patient Safety, Patient Privacy, Infection Control, Risk Assessment and more. This Program will give you the knowledge you need to successfully navigate the rules and regulations that hospitals and their contractors must abide by.

KSHE membership has long supported the concept of certifying contractors who wish to work in their Kentucky hospitals. The emphasis is on “Certification” because at the end of this 1-day program, there is a certification exam. Those who pass the exam will be designated “Certified Healthcare Contractor.” This certification will be valid for 3 years. During that time frame, opportunities will be available to earn continuing education credits in order to maintain certification, or prior to the end of the 3-year term the contractor can re-take the course.

*New! BYOD Taking the CHC Exam? Plan on bringing your own laptop, iPad, or mobile device as the CHC exam will be administered online.

When KSHE introduced the Certified Healthcare Contractor Program in 2006, many Kentucky hospitals simply encouraged their service providers to become certified. Since then, many Kentucky hospitals have been requiring that any contractor performing work in their facility be certified … and the number of hospitals taking this stance is growing all the time. Do not miss out on this unique opportunity to expand your knowledge of the Healthcare Environment of Care and Patient Safety issues and how they affect you when performing services in Kentucky hospitals. Space is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please Note
Our certification program has been modified. The CHC is now a one-day course with the Safe Day One (formerly known as the Certified Healthcare Technician) course or 6 contact hours in healthcare engineering now serving as a pre-requisite. If you are re-certifying as a CHC, you still need to take the Safe Day One (formerly the CHT) and attend the CHC, but you will not be required to re-take the CHC exam. You may also submit 12 contact hours in healthcare engineering to re-cert as a CHC.
